Walter Philip Warner, 87, of Colonial Beach passed peacefully away on October 26, 2017, with his children by his side. Walt was employed by the Naval base in Dahlgren from 1954 through 1985, where he was one of the nation's first computer scientists, a pioneer in the computer field. He was an avid golfer, a member of the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. His primary mission in life, however, was to be the world's best father, uncle and grandfather. He was renowned throughout the family as a singer of silly songs and creator of the "Waffle Bird".
Walt was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Martha Jean. He is survived by his children, Cathy and Bill Robins, Vicki Warner, Steve and Pam Warner; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Rob and Alicia Warner, Chris and Sarah Robins, Cathi Jo Green, Laura and Billy Haines, Karen and Jason Adamavage, Mariah Warner, Ben Haines, Elsie Haines, Clara Haines, and Megan Adamavage. He is also survived by a brother, Donald Warner, a sister, Elizabeth Patterson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Colonial Beach, at 1:00 on Saturday, November 11. A reception will follow in the Parish House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad.
