Mr. Potts had been the proprietor of Battletown Services in Berryville. Prior to that, he had been sports editor and managing editor for the Winchester Star. For the past fifteen years right up until his death, he worked his lifetime dream job managing the marina at Fairview Beach Yacht Club. Known as "Buckeye" to many during his teen years, he is remembered for his performance as an all-star fullback for the Clarke County Eagles High School football team. He was named to the Clarke County Athletic Hall of Fame. Father to a few, a best friend to many, and a friend to all, Mr. Potts never knew a stranger.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy A. Potts; his son, Roy Potts IV and his wife Adrienne; his daughter, Emily Johnson and her husband Tony; Zackery Masseralla; his sister, Jeanne Faulconer and her husband Rick; his sister Karen Thomas and Mike Brandt; three grandchildren, Roy "Quint" Potts V and Madelyn and Evelyn Johnson; and his devoted dog Delrod. He was the son of the late Roy E. Potts, Jr. and Ruth McDaniel Potts of Berryville.

Celebrations of his life will take place in two locations. The first will be 1 pm - 6 pm Saturday, December 9 at Tim's II at Fairview Beach, 5411 Pavilion Dr., King George.
