Richard "Rich" Lorey, 78, of King George County passed peacefully from this life on Friday, July 27th at Mary Washington Hospital. Richard, youngest of 9, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 28, 1939 and lived the majority of his life in King George County after receiving his PhD in physics from Georgia Tech. An Army veteran and member of the Chemical Corps, Richard is survived by Virginia "Ginny", his wife of 54 years, his son and daughter-in-law Brandon and Kelli, his grandchildren Kyle and Courtney, and his sister Lorraine. During his working years, Richard ran multiple departments at the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren Division, concluding his career running the Chem-Bio Division. He was an avid long distance runner, loved to ski, backpack, and watch baseball. In retirement, Richard was a member of American Legion Post 89 in King George and was heavily involved in local politics. An active member of the Catholic Church, Rich absolutely loved attending St Anthony's traditional Latin masses and would look for opportunities to attend similar masses whenever he travelled the country. He had a passion for teaching, and in addition to tutoring and teaching the occasional summer course to adoring students, he will be forever remembered for how much he taught those close to him; from him, they learned about everything, from science to history to the many and myriad experiences life and God have in store for us. His family will be accepting visitors Friday, August 3, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Storke Funeral Home, Nash & Slaw Chapel, 11089 James Madison Pkwy., King George, VA 22485. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 4, 2018 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church,
10299 Millbank Road, King George, VA 22485 with Father Joseph Kenna officiating. Burial will follow at Historyland Memorial Park Cemetery, 11227 James Madison Pkwy, King George, VA 22485. Condolences may be left for the family at
