Paul "Carter" Sanford, Sr., 92 of Ruther Glen passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Born in Warsaw, he moved from the Northern Neck to Caroline County in 1960. There he served as a Virginia State Trooper for many years and later moving to the office of Investigation for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He also is a veteran having served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. During his years in Caroline, he had the honor of being on the Board of Directors of the Ladysmith Rescue Squad and at one time served as their President as well as a long time member of the Squad's Auxiliary. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Frances Dawson Sanford; two children, Paul Sanford, Jr, his wife Brenda and Sandra Sanford Smelley, her husband Jeff; three grandchildren, Jamie Mundy, Jessica Bennett and Christopher Morgan; three great grandchildren, Nathan Mundy, Nicholas Mundy and June Bennett. He is preceded in death by his siblings, GC Sanford, Mae Sanford Andrews, Cordell Sanford and Dale Sanford Reams. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Carmel Baptist Church in Ruther Glen. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 PM Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
