Leon J. Lysher, 89, died on November 8, 2018 at home. Leon was born in Holdingford, MN where he attended Holdingford High School. After high school he worked for the Veterans Administration and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. Following several years as a cook in the Alaska gold mines, he attended St. John's University where he received a B.S. Degree in physics. He then accepted a position at the Naval Proving Grounds (now NSWC) Dahlgren, VA. While there he received an M.S. Degree in electrical engineering from Ohio State University under a U.S. Navy sponsored full time graduate study program. He retired from NSWC as a senior manager. After retirement he enjoyed traveling, wood carving, hunting, fishing, and crabbing. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in King George, a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus and an early member of the King George Quarterback Club.

Leon was predeceased by his first wife of 46 years, Martha Krupa Lysher of Avon, MN. He is survived by his second wife of 20 years, Anne Marie Old Lysher. Leon is also survived by his daughter Judith Lysher Madison (Ben); three sons, Peter (Rita) of Stafford, Paul of King George, and John (Carol) of Stafford; stepdaughter Susanne White of Caroline and a stepson Curtis Old (Deb) of Wandersville, WV. He is also survived by three sisters: Lois Angulski of Avon MN, Joan Vos (Harry) of Dane WI and Jane Miller of Bedford, VA. Survivors also include thirteen grandchildren and step-grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Family will greet friends at Storke Funeral Home in King George on Sunday, November 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Anthony's on Monday November 12, at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Historyland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony's or St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 11 Irving Avenue, Colonial Beach, VA or the King George Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund c/o Gary Butler, 10107 Four Iron Court, Fredericksburg, VA 22408.
