James Arthur Carr, 90, of Port Royal, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2017, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he attended Campbell College before joining William Liddell & Co., the family Irish Linen Manufacturing business. He became the General Manager of the New York City office. In 1963 he moved his family to Sarasota, Florida, where he opened Beech-Carr Linens on St. Armands Key. He retired to Port Royal, Virginia, in 1989.

Jim was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Beech Carr. He is survived by his eight children: James Carr (Pat), William Carr, David Carr (Elizabeth), Valerie Carr McNamara (Richard), Cynthia Carr Lynch (James), Steve Carr, Rex Carr (Gina) and Adam Carr; his eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

From a young age, Jim was an avid golfer, reader, photographer, philatelist (stamp collector), glider pilot and had a keen appreciation for music and the arts. After retiring, Jim continued to work part time as grounds keeper for the Portabago Bay Association until he was 86. In addition, he enjoyed designing and building sets and props for the Metropolitan School of the Arts, Alexandria Virginia.
