Helen Diana Capone, M.D., 91, of Colonial Beach passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 at her residence. She was born June 1, 1927 in Rymanow, Poland to the late Zygmunt Louis Preisler and Monica Jachimoski Preisler.

Dr. Capone received her medical training in Canada at the Ottawa General Hospital in 1951. She did her medical residency training at Sister of Charity Hospitals in Buffalo, New York, the Gallinger Hospital in Washington, DC and the Boston City Hospital in Boston, Mass. Her first position as a physician was at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC from 1955 to 1963; then she went into private practice from 1963 to 1972 in Bethesda, MD. She then returned to Walter Reed in 1972 to 1982 retiring as the Chief of the Medical Clinic. Dr. Capone went into private practice again, this time with her husband, from 1982 until 1995 in Clinton, MD. The Dr. Capone's (husband and wife) also had a medical practice in Colonial Beach from 1989 until December 1999.
Dr. Capone was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Colonial Beach and a Fellow of the American Society of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Capone is survived by 4 children, Matthew Peter Capone, Michael Paul Capone, Martin Thomas Capone and Martha Helen; a sister, Jeanette S. Preisler and two grandchildren, Monica and Kelly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice A. Capone, M.D., and 2 sons, Rev. Marcus James Capone and Maurice Charles Capone.

A prayer service will be held Thursday, July 26th at 7:00 pm at the Colonial Beach chapel of Storke Funeral Home 131 3rd Street. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am on Friday, July 27th at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Colonial Beach. Burial will follow at 2:30 pm in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.
