Edward Foster DeFord Jr., 88 of Doswell died Thursday, September 15, 2016 at his home, Pinecrest Farm. Mr. DeFord was a graduate of Crewe High School and the College of William and Mary, where he received a BS and MA in educational administration. He did additional graduate work at the University of Virginia, George Washington University and the University of Georgia. He worked twenty-six years for the Richmond Public School System as a teacher, assistant principal and acting Director of Research and Development. Following retirement in 1978, he worked for Brookside Laboratories of Ohio for several years. He also operated a small cow-calf farm in Doswell. He was a member of Taylorsville Baptist Church and the Doswell Ruritan Club.

Survivors include his devoted wife and best friend of 65 years, Iris Kiser DeFord; two sons, James E. DeFord, Jr (Joanne) and David F. DeFord (Kenda); a daughter, Barbara D. Oubre (Christopher); eight grandchildren, James E. DeFord, Jr., Stephen E. DeFord, Eric W. Stepp, Kirk P. Stepp (Shannon), Matthew R. Daniel, Randy E. Engram, Chant'e M. Engram and Meredith Oubre and six great grandchildren, Joshua, Brady, Colin, Graham, Rosemary and Paisley.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 18th from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Pinecrest Farm 10001 Kings Dominion Blvd Doswell. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 19th at 11:00 AM at Taylorsville Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the food pantry fund at Taylorsville Baptist Church P.O. Box 219 Doswell VA 23047 or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be left for the family at
