Betty Ann Green Runyan, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home after a short illness of lung cancer, in Richmond Virginia on September 4, 2018. She was born on March 13, 1928, in Welch, West Virginia to Thomas Campbell and Mabel Smith Green.

Betty was the youngest of 10 children. She spent most of her life in Charleston, West Virginia until the last five years when she moved to Bowling Green and Richmond, Virginia. She married Walter Warren Runyan on August 25, 1948. She was a homemaker and worked for Oakhurst Presbyterian Church as a secretary for 20 years. She was a deaconess at Oakwood Baptist Church and a member of the Ladies Aid society.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Warren; infant daughter, Pamela Jean; infant great-grandson, James Michael Alsop; her six brothers; and her three sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Bobbi and her husband, Mike Alsop; daughter, Susan and husband, Ed Maier; daughter, Cindy Fornataro; and daughter, Kim and husband, Kirk George; ten grandchildren, Sarah Alsop, Michael Alsop and wife, Katelyn, Eric and Christopher Fornataro, Will and Brian George, Butch Maier and wife, Aimee, Erica and husband, Fabian Lopez, Elizabeth and husband Justin Chernow and Eliot Maier; and seven great-grandchildren, Evy Alsop, Max, Alexa, and Rebeca Lopez and Will, Ben and Jack Maier. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

The family would like to thank the residents and staff at Brookdale West End of Richmond and Hospice of Virginia for their loving care during these last few months. Mom made many friends during her time at Brookdale. It was these friends, especially Bo Aldredge that gave her joy in living there.

A celebration of life service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, September 9 at Salem Baptist Church, 24032 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514. There will be a graveside service at 11:00AM on September 11 at Sunset Memorial Park, 4301 MacCorkle Ave. SW, South Charleston, WV 25309. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Salem Baptist Church Family Life Center, 24032 Sparta Rd., Milford, VA 22514.
