Audrey Morrison, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in King George, Virginia, on Friday, April 27, 2018.

Audrey was born May 30, 1927, in Dahlgren to Raymond and Clare Pounds. She grew up in Dahlgren and attended Dahlgren School on what was then the U.S. Naval Proving Ground, now NSWC. After graduating from King George High School during WWII, she began working on the base, where a few years later she met her future husband, George S. Morrison. They were married for 46 years until his death in 2001. After living for many years in Orlando, Florida, Audrey returned to Dahlgren in 1972 and took a position in the same building on the base at Dahlgren where she had worked in the 1940s and 50s. In total, she worked at Dahlgren for 30 years, and served as the assistant to the commander of the base at the time of her retirement.

Audrey and her family have ties to the King George area going back to the days of the early Virginia colonists. She was recently surprised to learn that she was a direct descendant of Col. John Washington, the great-grandfather of George Washington, who settled in the Northern Neck in 1657. Relatively late in life at age 74, Audrey got her first passport and discovered that she loved traveling, and visited Asia, Europe and Latin America numerous times.

Audrey is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Alla Morrison, grandson Peter Morrison, and granddaughter Zoya Morrison, all of Bethesda, MD; her brother, Raymond Warren Pounds of Fort Lauderdale, FL; several nieces and nephews including Bruce Franks (Deborah) of King George, and Brenda Hafner (Ken) of Pittsburgh, PA, as well as a number of great nieces and nephews. Her sister Mary Franks and brother Robert Pounds preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Dahlgren United Methodist Church, 17080 14th Street, Dahlgren, VA 22448, with Rev. Thomas G. Lee Sr. officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakland Baptist Church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to charities that support causes which Audrey cared about: Everytown for Gun Safety (, or UNICEF ( Expressions of condolence may be left for the family at
