Anne Elizabeth Britton Ammerman, 78, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, formerly of King George County died suddenly, Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at her home at Chancellor's Village. She was born December 17, 1938 in Fayetteville, NC, but grew up in Dunn, NC. She was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Thornton Britton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Jay Ammerman. She is survived by her son, Wesley George Ammerman of Raleigh, NC, a brother George Britton (Irene); sister-in-law, Ann Ammerman Wildasin; a niece Lynda Wildasin Watkins (Duane); nephew Clay Britton (Stacia) and great nieces and nephews.

Anne graduated from Dunn High School in 1957 where she was a forward on her basketball team. She went on to Meredith College in Raleigh, NC graduating with BS in math and minoring in chemistry. She then went on to get her Masters in math from UNC – Chapel Hill. Upon completion of her education she began working for NSWC in Dahlgren, VA. in 1963 as a computer programmer. At other times she was employed as a contract programmer, while also enjoying the roles of wife, mother and homemaker.

Anne was a longtime member of Oakland Baptist Church in King George where she served as organist for almost 50 years. She loved music and hand bells and organized and led the Oakland Hand Bell Choir. She participated in WMU and women's bible studies. She enjoyed a lively game of golf with friends and her husband, Don, as well as attending Navy football games. Anne actively followed many sports teams, but always cheered on her UNC and Navy teams. She would play a game of Bridge always saying she wasn't very good, but made a good fourth. She liked to sew, making some of her own clothes and creating and sewing decorative flags.

After 44 years in their "Forever Home" in King George she and husband Don moved to Chancellor's Village in Fredericksburg in 2014 where they made new friends and participated in the various activities. Anne was an eager volunteer on the Sunshine Committee, delivering birthday balloons to the residents. She also served as treasurer of the Resident Council. Anne often played the organ or piano for various programs. Anne had a ready smile for everyone she met and willingly gave of herself and time to help her family, friends and others in her church and community. She did this without thought of her own needs. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 1 from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Storke Funeral Home King George Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 12:00pm. Interment will follow in Historyland Memorial Park, King George. Memorials may be made to George H. Britton, Sr. Scholarship Fund, Campbell University c/o of Business Office, 143 Main Street, Lillington, NC 27546
